Frequently Asked Questions

General questions

How much does a website cost?

The cost depends on the scope, functionality, design and integrations. Most websites start around €15,000.

We always start with a conversation to understand your goals, needs and priorities. Based on that, we create a tailored proposal.

Together, we look for smart solutions within your budget. Sometimes small features turn out to be surprisingly expensive, while bigger ideas are easier to implement than expected. By involving you from the start, we can make the right decisions together.

How long does it take to build a website?

That mostly depends on how quickly feedback and approvals move forward. A lot of time goes into alignment and decision-making.

Purely in terms of execution, a typical timeline looks like this:

  • Analysis: around 1 month
  • Design: around 1 month
  • Development: starting from 1 month

For larger projects, these phases can take longer. We strongly believe in investing enough time upfront so the final result truly matches expectations.

Together, we always define a realistic timeline that fits both the project and your availability.

What does a typical project process look like?

Each of our services has its own detailed page:

Will we work directly with you?

Yes. Always.

At Sitetrip, you work directly with the people building your website. No sales people, no project managers, no layers in between.

That keeps communication clear, decisions faster, and the end result better aligned with what you actually need.

From the first conversation to launch day, you’ll simply work with us.

Can you improve our existing website?

Yes, absolutely.

We always start with a technical and strategic review of your current website. What works well? What’s holding you back? Where can things improve?

Sometimes that means optimization or expansion. Sometimes rebuilding makes more sense long term.

We’ll always be honest about that. No throwaway work, just decisions that make sense for the future of your platform.

Can you take over an existing Drupal website?

Yes.

One of Drupal’s strengths is that it’s transferable. We can analyze, take over and further develop existing Drupal websites.

First, we review the current codebase, structure and setup. Then we determine together what makes the most sense: improve, extend or rebuild.

Most importantly: you’re never locked into one partner. That’s one of the key benefits of open source.

What happens after our website launches?

Launch day is the beginning, not the end.

We first provide training so your team can confidently manage the website yourselves. Updating content, creating pages or adjusting things should not require a developer every time.

After launch, we continue handling maintenance, updates and technical follow-up so your platform stays secure, stable and up to date with the latest Drupal and infrastructure updates.

That way, your website doesn’t slowly fall behind or become difficult to maintain later on.

We also remain available for support, improvements and future expansions whenever you want to keep building further.

Not “launched and forgotten”. A platform that keeps evolving instead.

Drupal & technology

What exactly is Drupal?

Drupal is an open source content management system (CMS) used to build websites and web applications.

It’s modular by nature, which means it can grow and evolve without locking you into a rigid template or platform.

Under the hood, it’s a very flexible and powerful system, especially suited for websites that need to scale over time.

Why do you choose Drupal?

Because it gives freedom.

Drupal allows us to build websites that aren’t constrained by a platform or predefined template, but can truly evolve alongside your organization.

And with more than 45 years of combined Drupal experience, we know how to build that flexibility properly.

Not a quick fix, but a strong foundation.

When might Drupal not be the right choice?

If you only need a very simple website that will never evolve, a lighter solution might be more efficient.

That doesn’t mean Drupal has to be “too big” from day one though.

Thanks to our own base setup, we can launch Drupal websites relatively quickly without over-engineering them.

That allows you to start small and expand over time without rebuilding everything later.

In our experience, that long-term flexibility makes a huge difference.

Do you only work with Drupal?

For websites, web applications and webshops, Drupal is our core technology.

That’s where we feel strongest and where we can deliver the most value.

For things like design or copywriting, we collaborate with trusted external partners.

What’s the difference between Drupal and WordPress?

WordPress is often fast and accessible for launching simpler websites.

Drupal is built with more flexibility at its core. That allows you to start small, but also grow into more complex websites with multilingual content, user roles, integrations or custom structures.

With WordPress, websites often end up being rebuilt once they become too complex.

With Drupal, you usually keep building on the same foundation.

In short:

  • WordPress is often great for getting started quickly
  • Drupal is built to grow with you

Why don’t you use no-code platforms?

No-code tools are great for getting something online quickly. But they tend to hit limits once things become more complex or need to connect with other systems.

We prefer building with systems that don’t lock you into a single platform or subscription. So your website can keep evolving as your business grows.

And maybe just as importantly: we only add the code your website actually needs.

No-code platforms often load a lot of extra scripts, features and layers “just in case”. That can make websites heavier, slower and harder to optimise.

We prefer keeping things lean and intentional. Less bloat = faster websites, better performance and easier long-term maintenance.

Is Drupal secure and reliable?

Yes.

Drupal is known for being secure and stable, and is used worldwide by governments, enterprises and organizations with high technical standards.

Of course, security also depends on how a website is built and maintained. That’s something we take very seriously.

Is Drupal good for SEO?

Yes.

Drupal gives you a lot of control over content structure, metadata and technical SEO settings.

But SEO isn’t just about the CMS itself. It’s mostly about how your website is structured and built.

That’s something we think about from the very beginning.

Can Drupal grow with our organization?

Absolutely. That’s exactly where it shines.

You can start small and gradually expand with new features, content types, integrations or even complete new platforms.

Without starting over from scratch.

Can you integrate with CRM, ERP or other systems?

Yes.

Drupal is very strong when it comes to integrations. We regularly connect websites to CRM systems, ERP software, accounting tools, PIM platforms and internal systems through APIs.

That way, your website becomes part of your broader digital ecosystem instead of operating separately.

Can other developers continue working on our website later on?

Yes.

We build using open standards and clear architecture, so other Drupal developers can continue maintaining or expanding the platform later if needed.

You’re not tied to us.

What does open source mean for our website?

Drupal is open source software. That means the technology behind your website is not owned by a single company and can be freely used, maintained and extended.

For you, that means:

  • no license fees
  • no dependency on one vendor
  • more flexibility in the future
  • easier collaboration with other developers or agencies

And most importantly: your website remains yours.

What do you mean by vendor lock-in?

Vendor lock-in means being dependent on a single platform or supplier to keep using or maintaining your website.

We actively avoid that.

So you remain free to expand, migrate or continue with another partner later on if you choose to.

Does the website remain ours?

Yes.

Everything we build belongs to you: the code, the content and the data.

You can move the website, expand it or have another partner maintain it if you want.

What happens if Sitetrip ever stops?

Your website keeps running.

Because we work with open source technology and build transferable codebases, another agency or developer can continue maintaining and developing the platform.

You’re never locked into us.

To us, that’s simply healthy web development.

Why don’t you build “quick and dirty” websites?

Because quick solutions often become expensive later on.

Especially if your website is meant to last for years instead of being a temporary campaign page.

Fast setups can seem attractive at first, until you want to expand, customize or integrate new functionality. That’s usually when the technical foundation starts working against you.

We prefer building websites that are technically solid from the start, so they can grow without needing to be rebuilt constantly.

Design & collaboration

Do you also do keyword research?

Yes. For websites, keyword research is a core part of our discovery process.

We don't use it to cram keywords into your content. We use it to make better decisions. Which topics deserve their own page? What is your audience actually searching for? Which questions should your website answer? And how should the site be structured to make sense for both visitors and search engines?

By incorporating keyword research from the very start, we build SEO into the foundation of your website. Instead of trying to optimise everything after launch, we create a structure that's designed to perform from day one.

Do you have in-house designers?

No, and that’s intentional.

We’re a technical studio with a strong network of trusted design partners. That allows us to match each project with the right designer for the brand, style and ambitions involved.

No single “Sitetrip style” applied to every project.

We do stay closely involved throughout the design process though. We think about technical feasibility, UX, interactions and accessibility from the start, so the design not only looks good but also works well in the browser.

Can you collaborate with our own designer?

Yes, definitely.

We do prefer working with our regular design partners because we know how they work. Their grids are solid, content and UX are well thought through, and their designs translate cleanly to the web.

That usually makes collaboration smoother and allows us to push things further together.

That said, we’re absolutely open to collaborating with external designers too. We just prefer being involved early in the process so we can think along about technical feasibility, interactions and how the design will actually behave in the browser.

Because a beautiful design file is one thing. The real magic often happens in the implementation.

We already have a design. Can you develop it?

Yes, absolutely.

We prefer working with our regular design partners because we know their designs are well structured and translate properly to the web.

With external designs, we simply know the workflow less well. That’s why we prefer being involved early on, so we can advise on technical feasibility, interactions and usability.

That helps avoid surprises later in the process.

How do you work with external partners?

We collaborate with trusted partners for branding, web design, copywriting, illustration and motion design.

Not random freelancers, but people we know deliver strong work and collaborate well with us.

We remain closely involved throughout the entire process to make sure design, technology and user experience align seamlessly, both visually and technically.

Do you also handle UX and analysis?

Absolutely. In fact, that's where every project begins.

Before we design or build anything, we take the time to understand your business, your users and your goals. For websites, this also includes keyword research, allowing us to create a well-structured sitemap and detailed wireframes based on real insights rather than assumptions.

If your project requires a deeper UX process, such as user research, usability testing or market research, we collaborate with trusted specialists we've worked with for years. That way, you get the right expertise when it matters most.

Why do you start with analysis?

Analysis isn't just another box to tick before development starts. It's the phase where we make the decisions that shape the entire project.

We take the time to understand your business, your goals, your audience and your existing digital landscape. For websites, we also include keyword research to uncover how your audience searches, which questions they're asking and which pages your website actually needs. Those insights form the foundation of your sitemap and information architecture.

There's a simple reason we do this before design. SEO isn't about adding a few keywords once a website is finished. The websites that perform well in search are built on a clear structure, meaningful content and pages that match real search intent. Those are decisions that need to be made from the very beginning.

By making SEO part of the foundation, we create a website that's easier to navigate, easier for search engines to understand, and far more likely to perform organically over time.

A thorough analysis takes a little longer upfront, but it saves time, prevents costly rework and gives your website the best possible start.

Do you also do online marketing?

No, online marketing itself is not something we offer directly.

What we do make sure of, is that your website is technically ready for marketing from day one. Think SEO foundations, metadata, performant pages and the flexibility to create landing pages or campaigns yourself.

So instead of a website that limits your marketing efforts, you get a platform that supports them.

For online marketing, we can connect you with trusted partners if needed.

Maintenance & support

Can we manage the website ourselves after launch?

Yes, absolutely.

We build websites so you can easily manage content, create pages or publish news posts without needing a developer for every small update.

We also provide clear training so your team quickly feels comfortable with the system.

You stay in control of your website. As it should be.

Do you also provide maintenance?

Yes, of course.

A website is never truly “finished”, especially if you want it to keep evolving. That’s why we provide maintenance, updates and technical follow-up as well.

Drupal evolves continuously, just like browsers, hosting environments and integrations with external systems. Proper maintenance keeps your platform secure, stable and ready for future growth.

No throwaway work. A platform that keeps growing with you instead.

Do you actively monitor websites?

Yes, preferably.

For larger websites or platforms that depend on leads, sales or revenue, we strongly recommend active monitoring.

Because if something breaks, you want us to notice it before your visitors or customers do.

Think of a webshop where payments suddenly stop working, or forms that no longer send submissions.

With active monitoring, we automatically track errors and technical issues so we can react quickly when needed.

What if bugs appear after launch?

At Sitetrip, we always work with a warranty period.

Once the website is fully completed on the staging environment, meaning all agreed functionality is present and ready for testing, the warranty period starts.

During that period, we fix all reported bugs or technical issues at no additional cost.

Hosting & domain

How do hosting and domains work?

We handle the hosting for the websites we build, together with a reliable Belgian green hosting partner.

Your domain name can remain under your own management, but in most cases we prefer including it in our setup as well. That allows us to keep everything technically aligned and respond faster when support, updates or migrations are needed.

Simply smoother for everyone involved.

Can the domain remain external?

Yes, absolutely.

That said, we usually recommend letting us manage the domain as well, so everything stays technically aligned and support becomes easier and faster when needed.

If the domain remains external, it’s especially important that DNS settings are correctly managed during launch or technical changes.

Is your hosting green?

Yes 😄

We work with a Belgian hosting partner focused on green hosting and sustainable infrastructure.

That way, websites remain performant, stable and consciously hosted locally.
